Childcare Worker (Paid Staff) 

 

Paid childcare staff work under the direction of the Minister of Christian Education, Lead Pastor, and Staff Parish Relationships Committee (SPRC) of Wesley UMC must be at least 18 years of age. A background check is required, along with Safe Gatherings (Safe Sanctuaries) training.

 

Attendance: Sundays, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., this includes Easter Sunday; other worship services including Christmas Eve and Lenten services as they occur (for example Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday), and other church programming (for example choir rehearsal).

 

Provide age-appropriate care: Our nursery is available for children ages 0 to not yet in school full time (birth and 4/5 years old).  Interact kindly and appropriately with children, parents, caregivers, and staff. This also includes set-up and clean-up of the room(s) used.

 

Abide by Wesley UMC Safe Sanctuary Policy: including but not limited to passing a background check, completing Safe Gatherings (Safe Sanctuaries) training, copy of CPR certification card to Minister of Christian Education, and use of incident reporting forms when needed.

 

Other Duties as Assigned: There may be an occasional Sunday morning when you may be asked to be the second person assistant in a class, or help out with small tasks.

Pay: $15 per hour.

Children’s Minister (lay or clergy)

 

Reports to: The Pastor and also the Staff-Parish Relations Committee

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and present the Time for Young Disciples in worship on Sunday morning using the Scripture assigned for the week. 

  • Prepare worship bags for children with materials that support the Scripture and Time for Young Disciples message.

  • Plan and teach Sunday school for children (online and in–person)

  • Support the Education Committee

  • Maintain communication with Church Council and Wesley Kids Day Out

  • *other related duties as assigned.

  • Flexibility of in-person office hours (office provided)

 

Expected Education, Skills and Expertise:

The person must have faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and be capable of articulating and demonstrating that faith to others.

The candidate must demonstrate an understanding of Scripture that is consistent with the Wesleyan tradition and aligns with the open and affirming commitment of this congregation.

The minimum education required is an Associates degree or two years of completed college study.

Candidate must be Safe Gatherings Safe Sanctuary certified or achieve certification within 10 days of hire.

Must submit to a criminal background check prior to start date.

 

Hours: Part-time, approximately 15 hours per week.

 

Pay: Commensurate to candidate’s education and experience.
